Tiptastic Tuesday: Compile Coding Cheat Sheets To Help With Denials

It seems as though there are always changes being made about which modifiers to use in certain situations with payors. You may try to handle the issue by researching in your CPT book to see if there is any new information about the modifier online. To make matters easier, start keeping a cheat sheet of modifiers and other coding problems you’re running into. You may also want to suggest to your fellow coders to do the same thing. This way, you can begin compiling the notes you all have into one list so you can share tips with one another. You’ll have a more thorough record to turn to when one of you has another modifier question and it will also be helpful in making sure your claims are coded correctly. Of course, this does not guarantee that you won’t have any denials-but if you do, it will give you another chance to add something new to your list so you can avoid the issue in the future!
