CMS has delayed the launch of the Open Payments system, a database that will disclose payments doctors receive from drug and medical device makers. The Open Payments system was scheduled to go public on September 30 but CMS took the database offline to “investigate a reported issue.” CMS has not disclosed how long the investigation will last, but CMS will adjust the reporting deadlines until after the investigation. The original deadline to review information was August 27. The news comes after more than 100 physician and medical groups asked CMS to give doctors more time to review information and request corrections before the database went public.
