Survey: 9.5 Million Gained Health Coverage During First Marketplace Enrollment Period

According to a recent survey by the Commonwealth Fund, 9.5 million Americans gained health coverage during the recent marketplace enrollment period, reducing the uninsured rate for working-age adults from 20 percent to 15 percent. For young adults ages 19-34, the uninsured rate fell from 28 percent to 18 percent; for Latinos, the uninsured rate fell from 36 percent to 23 percent; and for low-income adults earning less than 138 percent of the poverty level, the uninsured rate dropped from 35 percent to 24 percent. The new numbers suggest that the health law is meeting its goal of increasing coverage to hard-to-reach groups.
