Medical Scribes Make Docs More Efficient & Productive

According to an editorial in the Wall Street Journal, medical scribes could allow doctors to spend more time treating and interacting with patients, rather than spending time filling out forms, scheduling patients, searching for data, and coordinating care. Some doctors claim that having scribes allows them to stay on schedule and see more patients in a day. Physician productivity increased more than 50 percent when doctors used a scribe, as did revenue, according to one study. However, certain doctors disagree, saying that “adding a third party into the mix is less efficient and creates additional opportunities for data entry errors.”
