AHA Fight Two-Midnight Rule

The American Hospital Association (AHA) is taking legal action against CMS’ two-midnight rule regarding patient admissions, as well as against the Inpatient Prospective Payment System. According to the AHA, CMS has not provided a reasonable explanation for the new law and has not followed regulations regarding proper notice and comment. The two midnight rule requires hospitals to admit patients as inpatients for at least two consecutive nights to get beyond the short stay threshold.
