Elderly Dementia Expected to Skyrocket

According to a new report from Alzheimer’s Disease International, the number of people with LTC needs, especially those needing care for dementia, is expected to triple by 2050. Currently, half of all seniors who need care and 80% of older nursing home residents have some form of dementia. The report also stresses the need for the government to take a closer look at LTC systems and supports, so that they can better oversee dementia care and improve the quality of life of those suffering from it.  The report suggests that the quality of life of those with dementia does not differ whether they are at home or in a LTC facility.
