The Congressional Budget Office has released a report which states that the newly proposed system, which would pay providers based on care (replacing the Medicare sustainable growth rate), will cost an estimated $175 billion by 2023. Under the proposed bill, H.R. 2810, Medicare physician reimbursements would grow 0.5 percent every year from 2014-2018. H.R. 2810 doesn’t provide a way to pay for itself and actually adds new spending items.
