Alzheimer disease can take many years to fully manifest but as our population ages, experts have started developing ways to pre-diagnose it. Pre-dementia screenings, which typically involve new diagnostic modalities, are being increasingly used by physicians. However, it is important to know that this pre-diagnosis is just that, a pre diagnosis which does not always progress to dementia. Researchers have found that 40%-70% of those diagnosed with pre-dementia, actually improve or do not develop dementia. Therefore, researchers advise that these tests not be overly administered in patients for incorrect diagnoses.
