A McKinsey survey of over 1000 executives, managers and employees across various sectors revealed which motivational methods were most effective in driving them toward success. Surprisingly, financial incentives were a much lower priority than most employers expected. Also, all experiential factors in the survey were ranked higher in effectiveness than any of the financial motivators. Small businesses can re-think how to motivate top talent by giving them more mentorship, attention, accolades and growth opportunities.
